There is a quiet moment before the day truly begins—when the sky is still blushing with sunrise, the snow on the mountain holds its first light, and the only warmth you need is the mug between your hands. That moment is what I hoped to capture here. This painting is not just a breakfast scene; it is a ritual of beginning.
At the center sits a blue mug, marked Mountain Morning, its steam curling upward like a gentle breath toward the peaks. Around it, the table holds small, ordinary comforts: a flaky croissant, a bowl of oats scattered with berries, a red apple, salt and pepper, a spoon, and a book waiting to be read. These are humble things, but in the early light they feel sacred. They remind me that peace often arrives quietly—not in grand events, but in the first sip of coffee, the first page of a new day.
Beyond the window, the world is wide and cold and beautiful: snow-dusted evergreens, sunlit mountains, birds crossing a pastel sky. The log walls and tied-back curtains hold me in, while the view calls me out. I wanted the painting to live in that threshold—between warmth and wonder, stillness and possibility, the cozy interior and the majestic unknown.
First Light, First Sip is my invitation to pause. To breathe. To be grateful for the simple gift of another morning. I hope when you look at it, you can almost feel the warmth of the cup, hear the silence of the snow, and remember that every day begins with a chance to start again.
